MediaTek has been the top choice for those manufacturers looking to push out low-priced smartphones. Companies like Huawei, Alcatel, Lenovo, Acer, Vivo, Xolo and Oppo are some of the names of these smartphone producers that use MediaTek chips to drive their devices. The chip manufacturer is trying to broaden its customer list to include some of the bigger names in the smartphone business.
Now, it appears that the Taiwan based manufacturer has reeled in one of those bigger names, in Sony. The latter already employs the quad-core MT6589 in the Sony Xperia C, and plans on offering at least five smartphones that feature a MediaTek SoC during 2015. Some, possibly all of the handsets, will offer 4G connectivity. That means that these phones will probably be mid-range to high-end models.
With more smartphone manufacturers trying to compete on price in addition to features, we could see more big names turning to MediaTek for their silicon needs in the future.
Thanks for the tip!
