The Samsung Galaxy S5 best in mobile video, almost on par with Z2 in still photography, DxOMark says

Undoubtedly, Samsung's current forerunner, the Galaxy S5, comes with a pretty good camera on board. We lauded it in our review, and the flagship has aced several of our blind camera comparisons since then, surpassing two of its more prominent rivals, the Sony Xperia Z2 and the HTC One (M8). DxOMark, a software company that is mostly known for its professional reviews of cameras and lenses, also came to the conclusion that the S5 totes an impressive piece of imaging technology on board.

According to the company's in-depth review, the Galaxy S5 "is the best performing handset tested to date" when it comes to video recording. DxOMark awards the device with 79 points in this department, leaving the second spot to the Sony Xperia Z2 with 73. The S5 is being commended for producing good rendition of texture and having good autofocus. One of the major cons is the lack of optical image stabilization, but this flaw does not prevent DxOMark from stating that the S5 is the best video-recording smartphone it has ever tested.

However, things are a bit different in the field of still image photography. With 80 points, the Galaxy S5 trails a little behind the Xperia Z2, which comfortably sits at the top of DxOMark's list with 81 points. It is said that Galaxy S5's camera has a noticeable loss of detail in low light conditions and a non-uniform sharpness across the image field. Apparently, these are enough to place the Samsung device behind Sony's latest smartphone.

Still, DxOMark's overall scoring places the Galaxy S5 on par with the Z2 – with an average result of 79, both devices share the first place at the top of the list. It is, however, important to say that DxOMark has not yet tested other flagships, such as the HTC One (M8) and the LG G3.

You can check out additional information about DxOMark's report on the Galaxy S5's camera in the gallery below. You can also check out our comparison between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2 here.
