The first Android One handset is supposed to be unveiled during a September 15th event in India. But Flipkart had jumped the gun by posting a listing for the Spice Android One Dream UNO Mi-498. Thanks to that mistake, we learned that the phone will be priced at the equivalent of $115 USD, come equipped with a 4.5 inch screen, a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of native storage. We also discovered that the model will come with a microSD slot for those needing additional storage. The back and front-facing cameras will weigh in at 5MP and 2MP, respectively. According to the leak, a 1700mAh battery will power the phone, which has Android 4.4.4 under the hood. There is also support for Dual SIM cards.
Spice has already publicized the phone using its social media sites, and has posted that the handset will be exclusive to Flipkart. And while the Indian online retailer did accidentally have the phone up for sale on its website, it has since removed it from its online store.
Monday, Android One will finally be unveiled and besides the phone from Spice, we expect to see similar models from Karbonn and Micromax. For those unfamiliar with Android One, this is the initiative devised by Google to help manufacturers in emerging markets build low priced Android phones. These models will have stock Android and receive automatic updates. They also will include a limited number of non-Google apps out of the box.
