Samsung to launch its Galaxy A series early next month

mercredi 29 octobre 2014

We've already heard numerous rumors about Samsung's upcoming A devices – the A3, A5, and A7. Designed in the same chamfered-metal-frame language as the recently released Galaxy Alpha, the 3 new phones are expected to take their place mainly in the mid-range sector, with the lowest-specced A3 to sport a (rumors beyond this point) 1.2 Ghz Snapdragon 410, 1 GB of RAM, and a 540x960 resolution on a 4.5" screen; the A5 – the same Snapdragon 410, a 720x1280 resolution, and a 5" screen; and the A7 is expected to be the biggest handset – with a 5.2" display, sporting a 1080x1920 resolution, 2 GB RAM, and a 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon 615 SoC.

According the the Korea IT Times, the new phones will be hitting the markets in China in early November and the main mission if the A series is to take back some of the positions that Samsung lost to Xiaomi when the latter took the China market by storm earlier this year, offering top-specced devices at very low price points.

It is said that Samsung will be pricing the A phones between $350 and $500, which is still a bit more than what Xiaomi sells its flagship Mi4 for. In that case, it would be curious to see if the midrange A phones can sway some attention in their direction, just for being 64-bit phones.
