As expected, HTC has started pushing out the Android 5.0.1 update to the Google Play editions of both the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7). A tweet sent out late yesterday from HTC executive Mo Versi, had alerted everyone to expect the latest and greatest version of Google's open source OS, to be disseminated on Friday to the stock Android version of the two phones.
The updates weigh in at a hefty 500MB, which means that you might want to make sure that your phone has a Wi-Fi connection before downloading it. Also, with such a large file, you should make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50% before you start the updating process. Having your phone go dead in the middle of downloading the update could have some negative consequences.
Keep in mind that the OTA update is sent out in phases, so if the update to Android 5.0.1 doesn't reach your phone today, perhaps it will by tomorrow. It's just a matter of being patient. Your HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) Google Play edition will eventually be running Android 5.0.1.
