Huawei smartphone sales rise by 33% in 2014; company falls short of shipping goal

mercredi 31 décembre 2014

Huawei saw its smartphone sales rise nearly 33% in 2014, to reach $11.8 billion. The company shipped 75 million smartphones during the year, according to an internal memo written by Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei's consumer business. Huawei fell short of its target to ship 80 million units for the year, although it did achieve year-over-year growth of 40%. The first half of the year saw Huawei increase shipments by 62% to reach 34.27 million handsets.

Sometime in the next few weeks, Huawei will officially report its 2014 results. The company refused to discuss the sales information mentioned in the memo, saying that it is a company policy not to comment on internal communications. The memo was read by Reuters.

As a comparison to Huawei's numbers, upstart smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi might have tripled its smartphone shipments to 60 million units from 18.7 million in 2013. One analyst, Alan Chen from Trendforce, earlier this month predicted that Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo would be the top three smartphone producers in China during 2015.

Although Huawei produced some nice handsets in 2014, one model in particular combined good looks with specs that any power user would want. Of course, we are talking about the Huawei Ascend Mate7. The 6-inch phablet was powered by an in-house octa-core chip, carried 3GB of RAM and a huge 4100mAh battery. The device made our list of the top phablets for 2014.
