Last week, we told you that Samsung would finally release a Tizen smartphone (the SM-Z130H) today, on December 10 - more than two years since first announcing plans to offer Tizen-based handsets. The smartphone was supposed to be launched in India, but that won’t happen today after all.
According to Tizen Experts, the handset should still be introduced sometime soon, though there’s no word on exactly when it’s going to happen. Samsung seems to have imported $1.7 million worth of parts to assembly the SM-Z130H in India - which means it’s still serious about launching the handset.
The SM-Z130 will likely be called Samsung Z1 when it finally hits the market. It’s far from being a high-end device, but that’s not its purpose anyway, as Samsung reportedly plans to sell it for less than $100. The Z1 should sport a 4-inch display with 480 x 800 pixels, further featuring a dual-core 1.2 GHz Spreadtrum processor, VGA front-facing camera, 3.2 MP rear camera, and 512 MB of RAM. 3G, Wi-Fi and dual-SIM capabilities should also be on board.
We’ve yet to see what the Samsung Z1 looks like, but we know what to expect from its Tizen UI, thanks to a previously leaked set of screenshots. We'll be keeping an eye on all this, and let you know when (if?) the Z1 is released.
