Earlier this year, Sharp surprised us by launching its AQUOS Crystal in the US via Sprint and Boost Mobile. With its 5-inch edgeless display, the Crystal is the type of handset that you usually find only in Japan, thus it was easy for it to attract a lot of interest from customers in America.
Now, Sharp has a new, upgraded version of the AQUOS Crystal. Called AQUOS Crystal X, the new smartphone was announced in Japan, where pre-orders for it should start tomorrow through SoftBank (pricing details aren't available yet).
While Sprint’s AQUOS Crystal is a mid-range device, the AQUOS Crystal X can be considered a high-end one. It features a 5.5-inch screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels, VoLTE, Harman Kardon sound, quad-core 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, and a 2610 mAh battery. On the back, the handset has a 13 MP camera with LED flash, while on the front we can see a 1.2 MP camera.
Since it measures 139 x 73 x 11 mm, the AQUOS Crystal X is definitely more compact than most (if not all) of the other 5.5-inch smartphones out there. For comparison, LG’s G3 measures 146.3 x 74.6 x 8.9 mm.
The AQUOS Crystal X runs Android KitKat, and will be available in three color versions: black, white, and pink. Sharp didn’t say if it’s planning to release the new handset in the US, but rest assured that we’ll let you know if we her anything about this. Until then, check out the Crystal X below:
