Xiaomi Redmi 2 unveiled; phone offers 64-bit Snapdragon 410 CPU and multiple LTE connectivity

dimanche 4 janvier 2015

As expected, Xiaomi on Sunday introduced the sequel to its Xiaomi Redmi 1S model. The Xiaomi Redmi 2 is equipped with the same 4.7-inch 720 x 1280 screen found on the Redmi 1S. One change can be found under the hood where the Snapdragon 400 has been replaced by the 64-bit 1.2GHz Snapdragon 410 CPU. The Adreno 306 GPU is an upgrade from the Adreno 305. 1GB of RAM remains on board, and there is 8GB of native storage aboard. A 64GB microSD slot is available for those who need additional memory. While the 8MP rear-facing camera remains from the original model, the front-facing snapper has been bumped up to 2MP. A 2200mAh battery powers the phone, and Android 4.4.4 is pre-installed.

The big change with the Xiaomi Redmi 2 is the addition of LTE connectivity that will support multiple carrier networks. In fact, the phone supports GSM, WCDMA, TD LTE, and LTE FDD pipelines. That means it will connect to the 4G LTE networks belonging to China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile. The phone will available in white, black, green, yellow and pink.

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 can be pre-ordered today for the equivalent of $112.60 USD. The phone will officially launch on January 9th. There could be some more information coming from Xiaomi. We expect the manufacturer to introduce a sequel to the Xiaomi Redmi Note phablet, and unveil its latest flagship phone. That could be the Xiaomi Mi4S or Xiaomi Mi5.
