Motorola COO Rick Osterloh recently visited India, and talked a bit about the company’s future plans for the country. According to The Economic Times, Motorola hopes to become India’s third largest smartphone vendor in 2015. To do that, Rick Osterloh said that the company will release affordable 4G handsets in the country. "Next year, we are going to be very aggressive in the 4G value proposition for end users," declared Osterloh, adding that India is a very important market.
While there’s no word on exactly what new 4G smartphones Motorola is planning to release, one of them could be the rumored successor to the Moto E - a handset that’s been very well received in India. Besides 4G/LTE connectivity, the new Moto E is supposed to feature a 4.5-inch display with 540 x 960 pixels, Android Lollipop, and a better processor than the current model.
Right now, Motorola is India’s fifth largest smartphone maker (behind Samsung, Micromax, Lava, and Karbonn), thanks to the success that the already-mentioned Moto E (pictured above), the Moto G and the Moto X have had.
Earlier this year, Lenovo completed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility, and now the duo is considered the world’s third largest smartphone maker.
