Activation Lock has Reduced Theft in Major Cities

activation-lockMultiple officials report drastic decreases in iPhone thefts since Apple has introduced Activation Lock in iOS 7. A method that renders a stolen iOS device without the owner\'s Apple ID and password. Reuters reports that the number of reported iPhone thefts has fallen year-on-year by 25% in New York, 40% in San Francisco and 50% in London. iOS enables Activation Lock by default in iOS 8. The feature is so secure, Apple Retail employees cannot remove Activation Lock in the store. This makes your shinny new smartphone or tablet turn into a useless paperweight. It\'s worth noting that downgrading a device that is activation locked on iOS 7 to previous versions will still prompt for Activation Lock. That said, this is only applicable to the iPhone 4.

As most everyone knows, the both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus pack a pretty decent punch when it comes down to how much RAM there is as well as the CPU and GPU. But for those that may not know, the very first iPhone sports just a 412 MHz CPU, 128MB of RAM, and a 320x480 pixel display. That being said, the iPhone has definitely made a lot of progress over the last seven years. Moving forward, a Youtube user by the name of EverythingApplePro was able to get their hands on every single version of the iPhone to do a side-by-side speed test. As one would guess each new iPhone generation gets a little quicker, however, it\'s also interesting to see the design changes as well.

With smartphone cameras increasing in quality every year and tablets having fairly decent editing apps, it\'s becoming more and more feasible to make a professional, good looking video without the need of expensive equipment. To demonstrate that, the folks over at Bently took up the challenge to create one impressive video using just an iPhone 5S and iPad Air. It\'s safe to say that if the video didn\'t mention it was filmed and edited using those devices, we never would have known and probably just assumed they used some high-end, expensive camera and editing software. Sure we\'ve seen plenty of iPhone drop tests over the years and even a gold iPhone 5S shot at with a .50 cal rifle, but never have we ween what happens with you apply 40,000 pounds of force. So the makers of the OnePlus Android smartphone set out to do just so in part of their Smash the Past campaign. According to the contest\'s rules, OnePlus will pick 100 applications to smash their phone in some creative way to get early access to the smartphone for just a buck. Moving forward, it is a pretty smart marketing move to gain some additional publicity all across the board. Based on the video above, it\'s safe to say that the Gorilla Glass Retina Display and the aluminum frame plus housing can\'t withstand 40,000 pounds of force as one would expect.
