App Review: ‘Notifications for Reddit’ Real Time Push Notifications For Reddit
Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 11.24.04 PMNotifications for Reddit is a simple new app developed by Andrew Chang (/u/RedBanHammer) that does just one thing and does it very well -- real push notifications for everyone’s favorite social bookmarking site. Currently, it is $0.99 for the launch special and will go up to $1.99 shortly after. Strangely though, this is the first app that has push notifications for Reddit. When I say "push notifications" I don’t mean enabling background refresh to occasionally fetch your messages from Reddit servers while simultaneously gobbling down half of your battery life in the process. With this app you don’t even have to have background app refresh enabled, all the heavy lifting is done by his servers, and it simply delivers your messages when they are received. He has even integrated several Reddit apps including Alien Blue, AMRC, Biscuit, and up and coming Apollo so that when you tap on the message it will open your favorite client. It\'s also a fairly decent inbox manager for Reddit, although the original plan was to just enable the push notification to open other apps. When he discovered the limitations of open messages within those other apps he chose to develop an inbox client as well.

Velox 2: From the Ashes of a Fallen Tweak a New Heavy Hitter Arises

VeloxNoticeVelox 2 is being developed by Philip Tennen and it will be available on the BigBoss repo for $1.99. The original tweak came out on the tail end of the iOS 6 days, around when iOS 7 was going to drop. This among other things including a lack of support and updates contributed to a bad reputation leading to a lot of people being let down, thinking it wasn\'t worth their money. Phil talks about this and more on an episode of JailCast, he responds to peoples concerns with "I would hope people can look to my track record of tweaks and the support thereof" and "I don\'t look at it as me picking up a legacy of a failed tweak as much as inheriting an idea that lets you interact with your phone in a whole new way." His track record speaks for itself, with tweaks like Acute, Hermes and Roomy and great customer service, we should be able to expect Velox 2 to surpass it\'s spiritual predecessor.

Tweak Preview: View Recently Open Apps Above the Control Center with ‘Return’

ReturnReturn is a new tweak coming out soon by William Vabrinskas for $0.99 on the ModMyi repo through Cydia. Return will display the most recently opened apps above your Control Center for ease of access. Additionally, the tweak also allows you to clear them if you so choose. Every time you open a new app it will push the one at the very right out of the screen and shift the other three over to make room for the new one. It\'s very simple and has a native feel. There currently aren\'t any options, but he\'s got a preference pane and he plans on adding in some settings for choosing the amount of apps displayed, favorites and paging if it\'s requested enough. I mentioned to him that it would be really cool if he could add in a button to go back to the home screen and he says he will look into it if people are interested in that enough as well. For now I made a home button shortcut with Polus to get me by.

Protube 2: Fall in Love with YouTube All Over Again [Review]

ProtubeProtube has a history of being the go-to jailbroken YouTube app, it has been around for long enough to basically become the default YouTube app for jailbreakers. Born out of the need for more options like downloadable videos and selectable playback quality, now it has made it\'s way over to the App Store and competing with other apps like Jasmine by Jason Morrissey the developer of Alien Blue or the official YouTube app from Google. With it\'s power-user feature set along with the elegantly designed user-interface it won\'t have any problems contending, especially once people discover the offline playlists. At $2.99 with no annoying ads or popups ProTube hits the sweet spot in terms of price versus usability. Having the ability to select anywhere from 144p to 1080p and then download it for offline viewing later warrants a higher price tag, tack that onto the fact you can even stream audio in an optimized 256kbps quality which uses low bandwidth and you\'ve got yourself an incredibly powerful YouTube player for less than your cup of joe in the morning., so go show some support for an awesome jailbreak developer and buy his app, you will not be disappointed!

A New Way to Chat With ‘Dasher’

A New Way to Chat With ‘Dasher’

Dasher_Icon Actions become habit and when it comes to messaging back and forth with our friends, we’ve established some seemingly irreversible habits. I’m guilty of it too, so I can’t point and shake my finger at you. Until recently, I’ve had no reason to explore any other options available out there. Why would I though? iMessage is so easy and recognizable for almost all of us. The thought of changing any past practices makes me sigh. Well, I’ve broken free from status quo and ventured out to try something new and it’s called Dasher Messenger . My conversations are better than ever with this fun messenger app. The best way to describe Dasher is by comparing it to your news feed on Facebook. As your friends find things to share, it shows up on your news feed. Dasher feels a lot like that but it’s in message Dasher_Screenshot_1 form. You can start a group chat with a bunch of friends and have quite an interesting exchange since Dasher uses “smart links” to share content. Instead of a simple hyperlink link to a video, picture, or news article, Dasher provides a preview of the content but it’s still clickable. For the most part, when you click on shared media, you stay in Dasher so there’s no need to worry about finding your way back into the app. Seems like such a petty thing to complain about, but it’s just more convenient and it makes it easier to keep conversations flowing. If you have friends like mine, you probably enjoy quite a few funny GIFs which show up on your Facebook news feed. If you’ve never had the desire to figure out how they share this content, you can easily do it with Dasher. Simply place a hashtag in the text box followed by a word and they’ll find one for you. If you don’t like what they’ve selected simply hit refresh and a new one is displayed. Keep refreshing till you find what fits your description or conversation. It’s a great way to add humor and action to the conversation.

Capture Real World Colors with ‘Shade’

Capture Real World Colors with ‘Shade’

ShadeShade is a new app that dropped on the App Store a few days ago that will let you quickly and easily grab a color from the world around you with your iPhone\'s camera for just $0.99! With a snap of your wrist and a few taps on the screen it will give you the average RGB and CMYK values of anything you can point your iPhone at; it can just as easily pull an image from your library and basically do the same thing. You can even get the average color value for screenshots which can be a neat thing to look at different themes you might be comparing. From the ground up the app is designed and built with beauty and easy of use in mind. Photo Dec 11, 9 26 10 PMWhen you first open Shade you are greeted with the beautiful minimalism embodied in the main screen of the app. You are presented with only three buttons on the menu bar at the bottom, which from left to right take you to "Color History", "Photos" and "Camera" respectively. This is all you need in the app and it\'s great he hasn\'t weighed it down with extraneous fluffy features that most users won\'t need just to charge a higher price. It is all too common these days to either overpack an app with tons of features that only a few will use but everyone would have to pay for, at just $0.99 cents Shade hit the price mark on the head. Photo Dec 11, 9 26 52 PMYou have the ability to save as many colors as your device has room for, which from my conversations with the developer, is a whole heck of a lot of colors. He sort of laughed at my question when I asked. You can name colors and they are timestamped for convenience, however, I am unsure weather or not he plans on incorporating any more sorting or filing functionality. For heavy users this may be ideal, but I am sure if there are people requesting it he wouldn\'t mind adding it in. This is the developers first paid app he has submitted to the App Store after developing a few pretty awesome tweaks such as Boxy, Boxy 2 and Sticky, which I reviewed a little bit ago. So go and welcome him to the ranks of App Store developers by showing your support for his first app. Or if you don\'t necessarily need it you could always gift it to someone for the holidays? Also, stay tuned for an interview with the developer coming out soon as it\'s a really good one!

Nintype: The One Keyboard to Rule Them All

Nintype: The One Keyboard to Rule Them All

NintypeOne keyboard to rule them all, One keyboard to find them, One keyboard to bring them all and in the darkness bind them... Nintype is an incredibly revolutionary new keyboard from long time iOS developer Jormy that helps you speed through texts at over 100 words per minute! It was just released a few days ago on the App Store for $4.99 and it is most definitely worth the price. Don\'t let the overwhelming amount of customization or crazy awesome animations deter you, it can be dumbed down to look almost exactly like the iOS keyboard but with all the amazing features still there hidden beneath the surface. As someone who has never been able to fully grasp the use case of swipe keyboards mainly because of a few jailbreak tweaks like SwipeSelection and SwipeExpander, I have fallen in love with Nintype. It wasn\'t quite love at first sight, but it was close. After disabling the battery hungry features like animations and LCD effect, which are really dang cool, I was able to dig in and start swiping with glee. One thing that makes it really easy for people like me who aren\'t into the swipe thing is the ability to peck type and sort of ease into gestures -- you are able to slowly integrate swipes into your normal peck typing at your own pace. One could make the argument that you don\'t even have to use the gestures and it would still be an incredible keyboard. It also comes with a feature packed note taking app which rivals powerhouse apps like Drafts and Notability .

AppHeads: A New Perspective on iOS Multitasking, and a Short Interview with the Developer

Photo Nov 27, 12 22 44 PMAppHeads is a new Cydia tweak by sharedRoutine that enjoyed a decent amount of hype in the jailbreak community. The original teaser post from 3 months ago had almost two hundred upvotes and a little over fifty comments with everyone wondering when they could get their hands on it. The post was this little teaser image in his alpha stage and people ate it up like the next best thing since sliced bread. A little while went by with no updates on it and then just under two weeks ago this post on Reddit popped up and teased it again with a video. It saw over two hundred upvotes and nearly one hundred comments with the same feeling from Redditors, they were basically frothing at the mouth and screaming, "TAKE MY MONEY!!". It\'s now on the BigBoss repo for $4.99 and worth every cent. Taking queue\'s from MessageHeads by Ian Burns, which is a quick reply and quick compose tweak inspired by Facebook\'s ChatHeads for Android; AppHeads takes this a few steps further, essentially bringing the same functionality for all apps. It\'s almost completely usable as a quick compose tweak and since there aren\'t a lot of these types of tweaks updated for iOS 8, I\'ll take what I can get for now. That being said, InteractiveMessageNotifications has been updated to work for iOS 8 as a separate paid package, however, the general impression from the community is it leaves a lot to be desired.

Zak Needs Your Help in ‘Flyhunter Origins’ [App Review]

Flyhunter_Origins_IconAccidents happen and Zak the janitor has made quite a big one in Flyhunter Origins . While “The Frog”, the legendary Flyhunter crew’s ship, is near Earth’s orbit, Zak accidentally jettisons some precious and expensive cargo. The Flyhunter crew was deep in cry sleep and were also jettisoned from the ship. Zak desperately needs your help to correct his mistake and time is of the essence since investors are patiently waiting for the Flyhunters to deliver the rare bug collection the Flyhunter crew has promised. Zak drops his mop and broom and picks up a super cool fly swatter. Normally, this would be a dream come true for him, but given how important it is to rescue the Flyhunters and the lost cargo, it’s a do-or-die situation. Controls are easy to master with the left side of the screen representing forward and backward movement. Use the left side of the screen to initiate jumps, swat at bugs, or zap bugs with a stun gun. During each level you and Zak must collect green globs which lubricate and power the ship. Also, collect rare bug eggs to trade on the black market to upgrade current equipment or purchase cool new gear. Be sure to keep your “bug eyes” open for secret packages that may be hidden in each level. As you and Zak make your way through each level, gameplay continues getting progressively harder. You’ll recognize obstacles from previous levels only this time they might be harder to clear or less forgiving. New re-spawn points will become your best friends on some levels. Flyhunter_Origins_Screenshot The storyline and visuals in Flyhunter Origins is great and kept me up late at night trying to collect more rare bugs to help Zak right his wrong. There were times it was hard to squash the bugs because they were so cool looking, but once they started attacking, it was game on! Flyhunter Origins is available right now in the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. For just $2.99 you unlock the game in its entirety, which means there are no in-app purchases Steel Wool Games , animators with over 60 experience including numerous Disney Pixar films, teamed up with Ripstone, an independent UK games publisher, to bring you this highly entertaining game that will have you helping and routing for the underdog, or in this case the underbug.

Sticky notes on your Lock Screen with ‘Sticky’

Sticky notes on your Lock Screen with ‘Sticky’

Sticky Image 1Sticky notes are a part of a lot of people\'s lives; used for everything from jotting down tiny notes to managing large scale projects (if you do it right.) They are integrated into Mac OS X and there are several free programs for PC\'s that offer the same functionality. Omitted from stock iOS for some reason, I can see why Apple might not want to include them on the iPhone but there surely have a home on the iPad. Sticky in Cydia on the ModMyi repo by William Vabrinskas, will bring you this awesome functionality to your iPhone or iPad for just $0.99. I can\'t recommend this tweak enough; it\'s lightweight, feature filled and "just works". The tweak puts a little square in the bottom left corner of your lock screen where you tap to invoke a note, it even has a few different options for animations. It even has the option of manually customizing the position of the little square, it can be tricky but with a some fussing it can help make your lock screen yours. There is a "Save" button on the bottom left corner of the actual sticky note which will -- you guessed it -- save the note to your notes app. Since I use the heck out of my notes app this will only increase it\'s functionality for me. It even lets you type out really long notes and scroll through them with ease. My only two gripes so far are the inability to be able to paste and it doesn\'t seem to care that Eclipse 2 wants to darken my keyboard; these are incredibly small things and although it would be nice to get these features I won\'t be the one to get on his case about it. If he can add that functionality without taking anything away then great if not then it\'s probably for the best. When you take a look at the preferences and all of the options he has stacked in you will see where it truly shines. Don\'t like the standard yellow sticky color? No problem, change it to whatever you like, you can even change the font as well. Having five different animation options to choose from -- Fade, Curl Up, Genie Effect (my favorite), Flip Left and Flip Right -- you can go that one step further in customizing it how you like. Last but not least is the ability to change the font size, which is big for me as I like to fit as much information as possible on my screen because I have really good eyes and don\'t mind very small text. Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more tweak reviews from your jailbreak guru, also feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments!

‘Transynd’ Your Music Experience on Your iPhone

‘Transynd’ Your Music Experience on Your iPhone

TransyndEveryone has differing preferences for their music needs on their iDevices; some people are heavy audiophiles and have nothing but FLACs in their iTunes, others do nothing but stream with Pandora or Spotify, and then there are people who are about in the middle like me. If you don\'t need all of the functionality of the Music app then Transcynd is for you! It\'s currently $0.99 on the App Store but the developer, Darran Hall told me that he plans on making it free for the next update after he polishes a few features and squashes a bug or two. He\'s a great guy and deserves the money so I suggest you go buy it! Having a beautiful no nonsense card style interface it allows you to easily select a song and start playing it quickly. The control card colorizes itself with the colors of the currently playing song\'s album artwork, which makes it visually pleasing to play your music. It reminds me of the Control Center but with a more minimalist interface, when you swipe it up the album art slides down from the top as well as sliding back up out of the way when you slide it back down, the animations are quite nice.

Tweak Review: ‘SnooScreens’ by Milo Darling

SnooScreens If you\'re a wallpaper enthusiast like me then this going to be the tweak for you. SnooScreens, developed by Milo Darling, lets you cycle a bunch of different wallpapers based on conditions you set by Activator . This is his first paid tweak that\'s been submitted to one of the default Cydia repos, so it\'s going to take some time to get released since he has to go through the approval process. But that said, it should be out within the next few days as he submitted it about 4 days ago and will be $0.99 in the BigBoss repo. For the entire review, be sure to click the following link.

Camera Plus – Make Your Pics Shine Forever! [Review]

camera_plusHaving a camera is one of the biggest advantages of the modern mobile devices. Instead of being stored in a separate unit like two decades ago, most contemporary platforms like tablets and smartphones include a hardware and software solution that makes them able to shoot photos and videos. But making truly great photos often requires a bit of extra help, and Camera Plus is an app that can offer exactly this. Produced by a company called Global Delight Technologies, Camera Plus has recently celebrated its birthday, marking its fifth year on the market. The app can be downloaded on the iTunes services, and works on iOS 8 or a later version. This makes Camera Plus compatible with the iPhone, the iPad, and the iPod touch, while it was optimized for use on the iPhone 5. Camera Plus presents to its users a unique set of features designed to produce photos and videos of a very high quality. In this Camera Plus review, features that will be presented include the ability to shoot photos as well as videos through remote control and the option AirSnap. Lumy is a function which offers an advanced lighting adjustment, and the app can also capture shots by using different modes of focus which include Normal, Macro and Far. Pix’D is another feature which produces a fantastic transformation on any photo with a single touch and creates beautiful results. The option of remotely controlling devices which was mentioned is a very interesting feature. This includes a process of paring two iOS operated devices which can capture video or photos remotely. This option transforms one device in a wireless camera while other one acts as a remote control unit. With the full screen preview option, the users can see in real time what the other camera is capturing. Camera Plus includes photo filters which can transform an ordinary photo and give it a lot more emotion and atmosphere. These are a perfect match for all those users who desire a more personal feel to their photos. An additional option allows them to add captions to images in different colors and styles, further expanding its customization potential. If Camera Plus is installed on the iPad, there are additional features which include soft flash, which compensates the lack of the physical hardware in the device. It also features completely customizable placement of buttons, which makes the app a fine addition to any iPad. Through the use of a very elegant and streamlined user interface, the app presents a very high level of usability. At the same time, it does not require a long time for adjustments, so that even brand new users can begin to utilize all its functions in no time at all. Camera Plus clearly shows that this app is indispensable for any user of Apple mobile devices who desires to transform their smartphone or tablet into a powerful camera. Rating 5/5 Stars

Rapid Recap: The beautiful game of ‘Osmos’ [Review]

osmosMobile games are usually quickly designed time wasters just to occupy you for that daily train ride or slow times at work. Hemisphere Games took mobile game design to a whole new level while still making a complex, interesting game. Osmos, released December 13, 2013, is one of the most well designed yet playable games to ever hit the mobile gaming market. Osmos drops you into an eerie place known as The Crux, a space like dimension that you must survive in. You are just a simple cell like creature that uses propulsion to move around the dimension, only able to absorb cells that are smaller than you. If you happen to run into a larger cell, it will absorb you. While Osmos is simple concept, the strategy that you have to think about it will hook you after the first level. The levels quickly get more and more complicated; adding gravity, orbits, and a number of challenging aspects into the already amazing environment. The developers are also adding more and more levels to keep you constantly occupied and exploring the beautiful world of Osmos. Osmos is available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play -- the iPhone and iPad versions are $2.99 and $4.99 respectively, while the Android versions come in free and HD for $2.99. ‘Keeper Security’ is Saving You Time and Now Securing Your Important Files

KeeperIconIf you haven’t noticed already, smartphone users are interacting with numerous mobile applications continuously on a daily basis. Currently app usage accounts for nearly 86 percent of the average U.S. mobile consumers time. With that in mind, more and more applications are requiring passwords to protect your personal information. Entering usernames and passwords is time consuming, which results in some smartphone users repeating the same passwords across numerous accounts. In today\'s age, this is an unsafe practice in protecting the security of your accounts, personal information, and identity. Keeper Security wants you to continue to enjoy your favorite applications, except now with the safety, security, and convenience of a brand new feature called FastFill. Craig Lurey, CTO & Co-Founder of Keeper, states, “Logging in and out of apps was a major pain point for consumers and professionals until now. FastFill solves this problem - it’s easy to use, fast and secure.” Currently FastFill is only available for Android, but iOS users will see FastFill later this year on their iOS devices. So how does fast fill work? To find out, be sure to continue reading...

‘Slotomania’ Review

mardi 17 juin 2014

‘Slotomania’ Review

SlotomaniaToday we take a look at and review this very popular iOS casino game app called Slotomania developed by Playtika LTD. Slotomania is a very large and massive online video slots game which is filled with over 55 slot games and thousands of online players. When you first run the game, your eyes are given the pleasure of seeing very many highly detailed and colorful graphics. For a game designed to run on iPhones, iPods, and iPads, there is a lot of detail and quality in the graphics of this game that you can see for yourself in the screenshot below. You might be wondering, how do you play this game? The rules of the game are simple, it\'s basically like playing slot machines in real life, except instead of having to go to a casino to play the slot machines, you can basically play it anywhere you want. First you choose a slot game that you want to play, the first available slot game that you can play is Farm Fortune, the rest are locked, and for accomplishing certain feats in the game such as leveling up, you get to unlock more slot games. For the Farm Fortune slot game, there are 9 different slot symbols with five different columns you can match them in. All you need to get is to get two symbols in a row, and if the two symbols are eligible for that line, then you get that many points depending on how much the scoring chart gives. slotomania_1To spin the slot machine, you tap on the "SPIN!" button on the bottom right corner. You can also tap and hold in order to open up the "auto spin" menu where you can let the app automatically spin for you without you clicking. You want to earn as much money as possible in this game, as indicated by the number on the upper left corner. The more you play and the more symbols that you can connect per line, the more you win. You can also change the amount of money that you use to bet per play, it\'s definitely riskier to bet a larger number of money, but you are able to win a larger amount of cash if you are able to match symbols that round. There are also three special symbols called Scatter, Bonus, and Wild. Wild symbols basically act as a wild card, meaning it substitutes as the form for any other symbol, so you can match very easily with a wild card as long as the lines connect for that symbol. Scatter symbols are hard to get in a row, but if you get at least three in a row you get a certain number of free rolls without having to bet anything, which basically means free money if you win. Possibly the most fun special symbol out of all three is the bonus symbol. If you get three bonus symbols in a row matching a line, you get to play a special mini-game depending on the slot machine game that you are playing on. For example, if you play the Farm Fortune slot machine game and get three bonus symbols in a row, you get to play the Beat the Mole game where you can earn bonus coins by choosing the right vegetables without moles on them. Bonus games are very fun and rewarding mini-games you can play if you\'re fortunate enough to get three bonus symbols in a row.
When you accomplish enough feats such as level up and reach a certain level, you can unlock further slot games as you progress. Unfortunately though you do have to download extra data for this game if you want to play the new and unlocked slot games, so you might not be able to play them if you run out of space on your hard drive. Unlocking a new stage is the game\'s way of saying that you progressed to the next area and the more that you play, the more levels you will be able to unlock. Unlock all 55 stages and prove that you are the champion of Slotomania.

slotomania_2 What are some flaws and weaknesses of the game? As stated earlier, the fact that you have to download more data in order to play new levels of the game is disappointing, however, it does slim the game down so if you don\'t have the storage space, at least you still play the initial slot machine game. Other than that there\'s really not that many weaknesses that this game has. Overall, Slotomania is one of the top slot machine game that you can download and play on your Apple device. It doesn\'t have very many negative aspects, and overall the game is fun to play. It has great graphics, addicting gameplay, and overall the rules and interface have been well thought out and make plenty of sense. If you are looking for a casino game to play, look no further, this game is one of the best out there. Rating 4/5
