Changes to Android could include wider use of voice commands like "OK, Google"

samedi 26 avril 2014

Amid speculation that Android will be thoroughly revamped by Google this summer, there is a rumor about extending voice commands on the OS. Currently, saying "Ok, Google," opens up the search app. Google could be expanding the use of that voice command to other core apps inside Android. For example, inside the camera app, saying "Ok, Google" could open up a box from which you can vocally edit or share your pictures.

There is even talk about replacing the home button with a Google button. Along those lines, there is the possibility that instead of using the command to open a voice box, saying "Ok,Google" could give the user a recommended selection of options to choose from. For example, you could be in the middle of a Gmail conversation with someone, and by saying "Ok, Google," you could have recommended options based on the actual thread. If you were taking about going to the movies in your conversation, one suggested option could be for Google to find you a movie to see. Or perhaps a certain eatery was discussed in

the Gmail correspondence. If so, using the voice command could help you find the hours that the restaurant is open.

Keep in mind that not only is all of this speculation, if it does become available, it could end up on stock Android models like the Nexus devices or on Google Play edition models only.
