While it's quite difficult for smartphone batteries to grow bigger, apparently making charging faster is easier. This is what Legion Meter's Kickstarter project asserts to. The device pretty much resembles a tiny MP3 player in the shape of a USB-drive with a display, but it's meant for even more electrifying things than listening to music. Its highlight is its ability to function as a charge accelerator with two modes of operation for iOS and Android devices (the latter supporting all other platforms). A patent-pending PLX Charge Accelerator circuit signals the device to draw the maximum amount of power possible.
Legion Meter's second specialty is the Watt Hour mode, useful for analyzing how much storage capacity your battery actually packs. This mode measures how much energy gets charged into the battery in watts per hour, and calculates an estimate of the total capacity.
Did we mention the gadget has a display? There's a 128x32 OLED panel which is used to show the power in watts which your device is sucking at the moment, the current in amps that the USB port is delivering to it, the voltage the USB port is outputting, and the aforementioned battery capacity counter. The display seems like a well thought-out addition, as it includes automatic screen saver mode and an actual graphics processor for quick OLED transitions.
The promising Legion Meter has mightily surpassed its funding goal and should hit the streets in October. The end price will be around $69, although you can still pledge $49 and reserve one for yourself.
