LG G3 camera sensor and performance details surface: in-depth look at specs

LG has just unveiled its 2014 flagship, the G3, the first smartphone outside of China with a very sharp, Quad HD (2560 x 1440-pixel) display and an improved, 13-megapixel camera with advanced optical image stabilization and a IR laser auto-focus assist light. Under the hood of the LG G3 roars a quad-core Snapdragon 801 system chip with each of the Krait processing cores capable of reaching up to 2.5GHz clock speeds.

The true geek, however, would hardly find that barebones information about the chips powering the G3 sufficient. Such an imaginary tech specs lover would ask for the chip makers, for camera sensors, and so much more. Luckily, information about all those details has already surfaced.

The first revelation about specs is that the LG G3 seems to have the very same Sony IMX135 camera sensor as last year’s LG G2. The IMX135 is a 1/3.06” sensor (which is around the average size for a smartphone), which means that the size of each individual pixel is 12µm. The front-facing camera also uses a Sony image sensor, so we have two wins for Sony in the camera department of the LG G3.

Another interesting revelation (coming from the investigative eye of AnandTech) is that the system chip powering the G3 carries the Qualcomm MSM8974AC v3 model name. The Wi-Fi chip is a Broadcom BCM4339 solution supporting 802.11ac.

You can read about all the other chips inside the LG G3 in the table right below.
