Samsung’s flagship smartphone for the year, the Galaxy S5, arrived amidst very high expectations, and while it did not have a Quad HD display or the Snapdragon 805 chip many hoped for, it turned out to be a solid performer in almost every regard.
Skipping on the gimmicks, Samsung focused more on meaningful features this time around, and one such particularly useful novelty it introduced in the Galaxy S5 is the Ultra Power Saving Mode (UPSM). With just 5% battery juice left, enabled UPSM will have your phone going for a whopping 12 hours.

To achieve this amazing boost in battery life, Samsung used a combination of techniques: it switches off color on the AMOLED display, caps the processor to just two cores running at lower frequencies, and kills all but the most essential of apps, leaving you with core functionality like phone, messaging, and a browser.
What if you could add just one or two more apps, though? Sure, this could make UPSM a bit less efficient, but if you need the maximum juice AND that special app, this might be a perfect solution.
Luckily, there is an app that does just that: the S5 UPSM Manager. It’s available for just a dollar on the Google Play Store, but it comes with one caveat - it requires root.
