HTC's default QWERTY is now on the Google Play Store

Instead of pushing out updates for core apps mixed in firmware updates, the latest trick by manufacturers is to publish these apps in the Google Play Store. By doing this, any changes made to the app can be downloaded by users quickly, instead of having to wait for a carrier update. Motorola has used this quite effectively, with Sony right behind.

Now, HTC is joining the club with the HTC Sense Input app, now available in the Google Play Store. The default keyboard for HTC devices now includes support for Google Extract View in landscape mode, offers .ru/.ro/.nl on Russian/Romanian/Dutch URL keyboard, supports handwriting manual submit mode and more. The QWERTY learns from your typing abilities, allowing you to type faster with fewer mistakes. It also allows you to use the Swype-style Trace feature, allowing you to type with one hand.

Besides working on the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7), the app will also play nicely with HTC Desire models. The app, however, is not compatible with Google Play edition models. Those with newer HTC handsets should see the update to their default keyboard as soon as today. If not, head over to My Apps on the Google Play Store to grab the update.
