Pantech Pop Up Note coming soon to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note?

Pantech, South Korea’s third largest smartphone maker, is seemingly getting ready to introduce a new extra-large handset called Pop Up Note (model number IM-A920S).

Not long ago, we heard that Pantech’s next-generation Note may use a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. However, it doesn’t look like that’s the case with the Pop Up Note (pictured on the left). While the device does feature a Qualcomm chipset, it’s just a Snapdragon 801 clocked at 2.3GHz. Sure enough, that’s still a very powerful processor, but it’s no match for the newer Snapdragon 810.

Reportedly, the Pantech Pop Up Note also features Android KitKat, a 5.5-inch 1080p display, LTE, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, and 2GB of RAM. The handset comes with a special stylus, and that’s why it can be seen as a competitor to Samsung’s well-known Galaxy Note line.

The Pop Up Note should be announced by Pantech in the near future, likely as a South Korea-only device. Pantech might want to consider releasing it in other countries, though the company doesn’t have the power and financial liberty that Samsung has - so it would probably find it difficult to market the new handset as a Galaxy Note alternative.
