Is the Motorola Moto 360 made from plastic?

vendredi 1 août 2014

A report published on Friday, states that despite the look of the Motorola Moto 360 in promotional videos and pictures, and the manufacturer's desire to position the smartwatch as a premium device, the wearable is made from plastic. This would be in contradiction to statements made by Motorola's Design Chief, Jim Hicks. Hicks had written on Google Hangouts earlier this year, that the body of the Motorola Moto 360 is made of stainless steel. It is possible that there was a change in the materials used since that comment was made.

While the Moto 360 looks as sleek as it could be with that impressive looking round display, the wireless charging feature coming with the timepiece is going to make the watch much thicker than the competition. The Motorola Moto 360 is expected to be 13.5mm thick, compared to the 9.9mm and 8.9mm measurements for the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live, respectively. All three watches are powered by Android Wear. And while the LG and Samsung timepieces have been available for over a month, the Motorola Moto 360 release has been pushed back to later this summer.

If this speculation is correct, and the Motorola Moto 360 is made from plastic instead of stainless steel, would that prevent you from purchasing the timepiece? Or will the unique rounded display, in a sea of rectangles, continue to hold your interest? If you need to take another look at the device, you can check out our hands on look at the Moto 360.

Thanks for the tip!
