Ultrasonic cover coming to Samsung Galaxy Note 4, for those with vision problems

mercredi 20 août 2014

Samsung is said to be working on an ultrasonic cover for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The cover is said to be designed for those with a visual impairment who still want to use the phablet. For example, the cover will be able to determine if an object is in front of the phone's owner, and will provide appropriate feedback. The sensitivity can be changed to cover short, medium or long ranges. As the length of the ultrasonic coverage widens, the area that gets covered narrows.

According to the information that will come with the case, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users who are visually impaired should not consider the ultrasonic cover to be a replacement for a cane, a guide dog or any kind of mobility aid tool. It also cannot determine dropoffs, which means that the cover won't sense where the floor suddenly drops down. Obviously, while Samsung intends for this to be an important tool for the visually impaired, it cannot be relied upon solely as a way to help those with vision problems.

The ultrasound cover is expected to be introduced at the same time that the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is unwrapped. That would be September 3rd, at the Samsung UNPACKED event to be held in Berlin during IFA 2014.
