CyanogenMod 11 now available for Android One devices

mardi 7 octobre 2014

CyanogenMod, one of the world's most popular custom ROMs, can now be installed on one of the three, recently released in India, Android One devices. This was made possible thanks to the work of developer varun.chitre15, an India-based member of the XDA developer forums, who managed to port a custom recovery to each of the three Android One models, and gain root access to them.

A custom recovery / unlocked bootloader is all one needs to install a custom ROM. XDA reports that since CM 11's ROM is universal, it can be flashed to any Android One device and will mostly work. Unfortunately, there is still trouble with data connectivity, Wi-Fi, and the second SIM card not being detected.

Google's Android One program aims to bring entry-level devices with adequate specs to developing markets. It would be interesting to see, now that it's been made possible, what modders will be able to do with the affordable hardware.
