A picture of Android 5.0 source code taken and disseminated by Yang Yan, seems to indicate that Meizu will be updating some of its handsets to the latest Android build. That bodes well for those with the Meizu MX4, which was released with Android 4.4 installed. The picture was taken and disseminated by Yang Yan, Meizu's Chief designer for the manufacturer's Flyme Android skin.
Meizu's apparent willingness to update its phones with the latest version of Android stands in contrast to Huawei's decision not to update the U.S. version of the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 with KitKat. The phablet was released with Android 4.3 pre-installed. The Chinese variant of the Ascend Mate 2 will be receiving the chocolatey goodness of Android 4.4.
It isn't clear whether we will see Lollipop on the Flyme-skinned version of Android, or on Alibaba’s (Ali)YunOS which Meizu is also developing. Besides the Meizu MX4, the Meizu MX4 Pro should also be in line for the Android 5.0 update. Unless, of course, Meizu releases the model with Lollipop pre-installed. The MX4 Pro has been delayed and is expected to be unveiled on November 19th.
