Earlier this September, the HTC Desire 820 made a debut at IFA 2014. It boasted a 64-bit capable Snapdragon 615 in tow, alongside a 5.5” 720p display, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear and a respectable 8MP front-facing shooter – it still ranks among the best upper mid-range devices money can get you at the moment. Subsequently, HTC unveiled a mini version of this mid-ranger, which was believed to tote a more affordable price tag while retaining the same overall specs.
Well, HTC today unveiled yet another variation of the Desire 820 via its Weibo account. Dubbed the HTC Desire 820s, it also comes with a 64-bit chipset on board, though this time around Qualcomm's offering was dropped in favor of MediaTek. Thus, the SoC in the Desire 820s is believed to be a1.7GHz octa-core MT6752, comprising Cortex-A53 cores and a Mali T760 GPU chip that chews through the graphics. As far as the rest of the specs are concerned, we are once again dealing with a 5.5-inch display, most probably a 720p one, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage right out of the box, front-facing BoomSound speakers, and LTE support.
Although HTC has not unveiled any pricing or availability of the slate, we suspect that it is intended to be sold in China or other local markets – thus, don't keep your fingers crossed that the Desire 820s will be available in a store near you (provided that you are not a denizen of China, of course).
