On Sunday, we told you that some Windows Phone users were unable to load up their handset with the Nokia Camera app. The reason? The app all of a sudden had disappeared from the Windows Phone Store. But even before Nokia had a chance to put the app's logo on a milk carton, the photo-centric software showed up looking none the worse for wear.
So what had happened to the app that adds features to the rear camera on handsets powered by Windows Phone 8 and higher? As one of our loyal readers had guessed, it was the simple matter of re-branding the app that had led to its (temporary, as it turned out) removal from the Windows Phone Store. The new moniker that shows up on the app's name tag is Lumia Camera.
With Lumia Camera, you can switch from having your rear camera on auto, to customizing a shot using the camera's own controls. The app also allows photos to come to life on your camera roll. If your Nokia Lumia camera has not yet received the Denim update, you need to use the Lumia Camera Classic app, which used to be known as Nokia Camera Beta. Both apps remain free from the Windows Phone Store.
Microsoft is obviously removing the Nokia name from all things Lumia. And with talk that Nokia is working on a flagship Android handset, it appears that there soon will be no more traces of the Nokia name in connection with the Windows Phone ecosystem.
