Chrome's playground for new features, Chrome beta, has already received some of the Material Design goodness. The most recent update to the browser brought it even closer to the Android L style, at least in the design compartment - it is now employing a beautiful and smooth animation for its overflowing menu. The animation falls perfectly in line with Google's latest design principles for Android, the ones that will come along with Android L pretty soon.
Driven by the motto that “motion provides meaning”, the new overflow animation stretches from right to left and expands in a rather smooth fashion, providing users with a clear answer of two questions: “What is this thing and where did it come from?”. This animation is but a teaser about all the interface goodies that will grace the design of most of Google's own apps once Android L decides to show up.
Apart from the visual refinements, Chrome Beta has received a number of stability improvements and bug fixes. Then again, we are talking about a beta version, so these minor updates are a pretty common occurrence, but once in a while the app receives some handy and useful features. The Android L-style animation will most probably arrive on the mobile version of Chrome in the not-so-distant future. We are eagerly waiting.
