Chinese vendor Gionee has pulled the curtains on its newest Android handset, the Gionee Elife S5.1. Its predecessor, the Elife S5.5, was released not long ago, and quickly became notable for its body thickness, an ultra-thin 0.22 inches (5.5mm). Now, Gionee has outdone itself yet again, producing a smartphone whose sides measure a groundbreaking 0.2-inches thin (5.15mm)!
This thinner than a pencil Slim Jim's exact dimensions are 5.5 inches x 2.65 inches x 0.2 inches (139.8mm×67.4mm×5.15mm). The phone's sides carry the maximum thinness, while the upper and lower sides are slightly wider - possibly in order to accommodate the micro-USB port and headphone jack.
Aside from being fashionably skinny, the Gionee Elife S5.1 is a compact and beautiful phone with more refined looks compared to its predecessor. Alas, the trade-off is that Gionee has opted for mid-range internals for one reason or another - possibly to not strain the 2100mAh battery it somehow managed to fit in its chassis.
The AMOLED display has been shrunk down from 5.0 inches to 4.8 inches by diagonal, and the resolution reduced from 1080p to 720p, resulting in a pixel density of 306ppi. The rear camera has an 8MP sensor, while the front cam has a cool 5MP sensor. The processor is Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon 400 clocked to 1.2GHz and paired with 1GB of RAM, while the storage capacity is 16GB with no microSD expansion options. Finally, the operating system is Android 4.3 with Gionee's own Amigo 2.0 interface laid on top.
The Gionee Elife S5.1 will start selling this month in China, but the price hasn't been revealed. Until the launch, feel free to gaze at the huge collection of photos and renderings we have assembled for your viewing pleasure!
