Microsoft is now the third largest smartphone vendor in India

vendredi 7 novembre 2014

Microsoft now has 12% of the smartphone market in India, according to research firm Gfk. For Microsoft, that is good enough for third place. Which manufacturer is on top? If you guessed Samsung, you're absolutely correct. The latter's 33% market share in the country is good enough for first place. Behind Samsung, but in front of Microsoft, is India's own Micromax with an 18% slice of the Indian smartphone pie.

Toss featurephones into the equation, and Samsung's leading market share drops to 25% with Nokia's 21% putting it hot on its rival's tail. With those parameters, Micromax is third with 13.5% of the Indian handset market. Thanks to lower smartphone prices, many consumers in the country are getting their first taste of what using a smartphone is all about.

Unlike many other reports, the figures here are based on actual sales, which allows us to have a more legitimate look at what the consumer is buying in India. The data show that Nokia remains a player in the handset market, although it no longer involved in the production of Windows Phone powered smartphones or the forked Android powered Nokia X.
