Another one of HTC's system apps is now available from the Google Play Store. This has become the latest trend, led by Motorola and HTC. By listing system apps in the Google Play Store, the manufacturers can avoid the carriers, and have users update them just as easily as they would update any app. The manufacturer is no longer relying on a carrier to test a maintenance update, approve it, and send it out OTA.
The app has already been updated for the flagship HTC One (M8) and the new HTC Desire EYE. It offers 7 hour to 14 day forecasts, and includes some rather nifty weather animations along with the latest weather news. AccuWeather.com is the source of the weather information used on the app.
Other HTC system apps in the Google Play Store include the BlinkFeed social and news feed, HTC Lock Screen and HTC Gallery to name a few.
